Munster Ladies Senior D1 football 1st. Round

Rockwell 3-11 Pobalscoil na Trionaide, Youghal 4-4

Played in New Inn on a miserable day Thursday, 20th. September, both teams found it difficult to adapt to the slippery conditions. Rockwell took a firm hold on the game from the get go and with 2 goals and 3 points from Laura Stocksborough went in comfortably ahead at half time on a score line of 2-8 to 0-2.

Whatever words were spoken during the interval the Youghal side turned around with a different attitude in the second half and blitzed Rockwell, scoring 3-2 without reply in the first 11 minutes. However, the Rockwell girls fought back, with Kate Barlow alongside Sara Finnane beginning to dominate mid field. This created the platform for a Rockwell resurgence with F. Dowling, Kate Flannery scoring two quick points, and Kate Barlow finishing to the net. Youghal scored a further goal in the 23rd. minute to set up a nail biting finish. This was to be their final score and Rockwell, through a Corinna Farrell point, ran out deserving winners by 3-11 to 4-4 at the final whistle. Best for Rockwell were Siobhan Whelan, Abby O’Sullivan and Emma Daly in the backline; Sara Finnane and Kate Barlow dominated mid-field for most of the game while Corinna Farrell, Kate Flannery and Laura Stocksborough tormented the opposition defence on many occassions.
