Dear Parents, Guardians and Agents,

I am writing to you all, as I understand there are many questions about school and boarding life in September in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is much speculation about the measures which will need to be in place and how schools and boarding schools will manage these measures. In truth, there is a lot that we do not yet know. We will be guided and directed in this by the HSE, The Department of Education and Skills, and the National Plan.

However, at Rockwell College, we are already working to ensure we have a contingency in place for the new academic year. Some of the measures we have already put in place to ensure we can safely accommodate and educate your child:

  • We have established a COVID-19 management team which meets weekly.
  • This team has had COVID-19 specific training in Risk Assessment and Health and Safety, and all staff will receive training before returning to work at Rockwell College
  • Our nursing staff have stocked PPE packs for each classroom.
  • We are limiting our capacity in order to safely accommodate our boarders in Shanahan Hall.
  • We have assigned spacing and designated an isolation area in the Residence.
  • We have secured stocks of necessary COVID related equipment such as signage and screening.
  • We have increased our number of already available hand- sanitizers.
  • We are assessing new technology, such as infra-red thermometers.
  • We are developing protocols in the event of a COVID positive case.

We will continue to work throughout the summer months to ensure that we are ready to welcome you and your child safely in September.

Apart from this, the school calendar and booklist will issue as usual in June. New boarders will receive all of the information they will need at that point. If you have any questions in regard to any of the above, you may contact me.

Kind regards and stay well,

Kind regards,

Deirdre O’Connor
