Munster Senior Cup 1st. round: Rockwell 66 High School Clonmel 0

The decision by Munster rugby to take this local derby to Independent Park defies logic, adding to the difficulty and expense for both teams and supporters. In truth, a local setting would have been more logical and would have swelled the numbers of spectators. The Rockwell side was quickly off the mark when Adam Smith scored an intercept try from a High School line out just two minutes into the game and John O’Sullivan duly converted. Matthew Burke, in the 15th. minute, added a further try which followed an offload from Adam Maher; this was followed by two tries each from Peter Wall and Josh Delaney. John O’Sullivan was faultless in his kicking converting all. Rockwell were now in a commanding 40-0 half time lead.

Early in the second half Burke went over and further tries from Josh O’Dwyer (two) and substitutes Kevin Grogan and Ben Mc.Carthy put the match beyond doubt. In fairness to the Clonmel side they battled hard but could not breach the stout Rockwell defence. Early in the second half Rockwell emptied the bench bringing on 8 subs. Rockwell will undoubtedly be more severely tested by an improving Bandon side in the second round on the 29th. of the month in Independent Park.

Dean Fanning, Cathal Kelly and Luke Fogarty in the pack were Rockwell’s key players while, Adam Maher ,John O’Sullivan and Joshua were to the fore in a stout backline.
